Can any of you identify this object?
I challenge you to tell me:-
- What is its purpose?
- Where does it come from?
- What is the name for this type of object?
It normally sits on the top of the sideboard in my Dining Room as an ornament, but I have to say that its original purpose is not ornamental...
So, what do you think it is...?
Salt? Snuff? Spittoon? Holder for some rare spice from the Spice Islands? Finger bowl? Hard to tell how big it is.
ReplyDeleteI have thought and thought about it, and I can't come up with anything reasonable. I was thinking that it might be something for storing dried herbs.
ReplyDeleteI think it is old, not something you can go and buy now? Spice crusher of somesort?
ReplyDeleteYes, it is quite old - though probably not an antique. You could buy one like it if you knew where to go (it's a long way from Fleet). No it's not a thing for storing or grinding herbs or spices. Nor a spitoon, Hazel (You'd have to be pretty accurate to spit through that little hole in the lid!). Keep guessing...
ReplyDeleteA spice or pepper grinder from North Africa?
ReplyDeleteDoes it hold insects?
ReplyDeleteNo, it does not hold insects (not intentionally, anyway...)
ReplyDeleteHmmm perhaps a salt pot
ReplyDeleteIs it a Bento Box? They are japanese lunchboxes
ReplyDeleteNo, it's not a Bento box... Nice idea though!
