Leggy

"Leggy" is a colloquial term used in gardening to mean etiolated - i.e. gone long and thin, as applied for instance to seedlings that have had insufficient light.

So if this is a spider:

is this an etiolated spider?

Well, you have to admit that it is very leggy!

To give you some idea of scale, the leaf on which this spider is walking is a Strawberry one, so the spider's body must be only 2 or 3 millimetres across, but its legs are about 20 times that long!

Just for good measure, here's another shot of the same spider seen above.

And this Gaillardia "Burgunder" seems to have something leggy lurking in it too...

  1. Eeek, they're all over the place at the moment, some really huge ones too.

  2. Looks just like what we call a Daddy Longlegs (the harvestman) which is technically not a spider but an animal. But when it comes to "eek" factor, they are all the same to me ;)
