Snow on the mountain |
The plot is covered in a (so far) light dusting of snow |
The snow has not so far been very heavy - perhaps a couple of centimetres or so - but it is still falling and the ground is very cold, so it is settling. More of it is forecast for the next few days. Fortunately I am at home today and I don't have to travel anywhere, but for the rest of the week I'm supposed to be commuting to London. Wish me luck!
I wonder how the plants under those fleece covers are faring...
Your plot looks delicious even with a coating of snow on it! I'm envious of your polytunnels, I didn't get to start any this year. Very pretty snow photos!
ReplyDeleteHi Eliza; Thanks for visiting my blog. Actually what you see in my picture is not polytunnels (I wish they were...) but simply some horticultural fleece stretched over some plastic hoops. Better than nothing, but "Could do better"... The snow may well get too heavy and they might collapse.
ReplyDeleteMark; Snow is welcomed by people in your country who are waiting for the Christmas but how about by gardeners who raise vegetables like you? This year's winter in Japan is gonna be very cold due to the hot summer this year according to weather forecasts as well as heavier snow so I and my wife have to get prepared for severe winter with setting vinyl tunnels.
ReplyDeleteHi Mark, A familiar sight! Your snow looks very pretty, hope that your crops are unperturbed and you manage your commute okay.
ReplyDeletevery tidy and wel protected garden:) who is afraid from snow now, just the wolves :)
ReplyDeleteGood luck commuting! I hope your fleece tunnels hold up. They look snug in the photos.
ReplyDeleteWe had snow all day in Salisbury too. A decent covering for this part of the world. Everything is nice and white. Best of luck getting to London!
ReplyDeleteHello Mark, thanks for visiting my site so i saw yours. I heard from TV news that it really is snowing hard now in UK, and i saw it in blogs in Ireland and Scotland too. I haven't seen snow in person, just when its already melting in the mountain of Turkey. I can't imagine the feeling and i pity the plants and small animals, and the people who devoted long man-hours tending their gardens. But your photos are great, i especially love those designs in the greenhouse.
ReplyDeleteYour garden looks very pretty with snow. The plants should be warm enough under the covers and also the snow should provide some protection from cold.
ReplyDeleteHi Vrtlarica; You're right, a blanket of snow can sometimes be better than having the plants exposed to icy winds. What is the weather like in your part of the world right now?
ReplyDeleteThanks to all for your comments! I made it to London and back successfully today. Same again tomorrow and Friday. And the weather is getting worse. Yuk!
