Winter Lettuce Giveaway

The other day I asked in a post "Is Lettuce for Summer only?" and mentioned that I was looking for some hardy lettuces to grow outdoors during Winter. One reader suggested "Arctic King" and "Valdor", which I shall now be investigating (Thanks, VP!). Several readers suggested I try Mache (aka "Lamb's Lettuce") instead. I have grown Mache in the past, but I have found it to be rather bland - as well as incredibly slow-growing - so I'm no further on there. However, I was also contacted by a person from Sarah Raven's company sarahraven.com who offered me some of their Best Winter Lettuce Mix.

This mix includes seeds for three different Lettuce varieties: "Can Can", "Green Salad Bowl" and "Merveille de Quatre Saisons" all of which are suitable for sowing very early in the year (February / March) or very late (August / September). So even if I can't sow them right now, I will be able to get started very early next year.

GIVEAWAY
Very generously, Sarahraven.com have sent me not just one pack of these seeds, but four, so now I have three packs to give away!

If you would like to win one of these packs, please leave me a comment ON THIS POST, including the phrase "Winter Lettuce Mix", before 12:00 on Thursday 14th November 2013.

The winners will be chosen at random from all eligible entries, and notified via this blog.

In the meantime, have a browse around Sarah Raven's website. There are some good things to be had - including a range of courses about not only gardening, but also cookery and flower-arranging.

  1. I think ' Winter lettuce mix' can grow well during dry season on high land tropics. Maybe this variety also adaptable on middle land tropics.

  2. Just ordered a catalogue from SR, had one before but found a bit pricey, but you don't mind if quality good. Would give the winter mix a go if I got lucky. My lettuce bolted this year and ended up on the compost. Need to do better

  8. I've always found Sarah Raven seeds to be of very good quality when I've treated myself! I'm going to have a go at growing lettuce on my balcony this winter and some under cover in the garden. I'd still like to try the Winter Lettuce Mix as I've heard good things about the Marveille de Quatre Saisons!

  10. I'd love to grow some of the Winter Lettuce Mix, partially because I'm impatient and can't wait to get going with new sowing, and partially because I never know what varieties to try, these being all new to me.
