Harvest Monday - 5 August 2013

July has gone and we're into August now, so the growing season is well advanced. Activity in the garden is now more concerned with harvests than with sowing or planting. I love this time of year for the sheer variety of good things I can pick:

In my photos here you can see Beetroot ("Boltardy"), Runner Beans ("Scarlet Empire"), three little tomatoes (2 "Sungold" and 1 "Maskotka"), two green peppers (type unknown - from seed brought back from holidays in Turkey), Carrots ("Mignon"), French Beans ("Cobra"), and a few Peas ("Boogie").

I also picked the good-looking cucumber that featured in my post about the Woodblocx raised bed, and there are lots more like it nearly ready too.

I also harvested this cucumber, which was a bit less "regular" in shape:

The potatoes are still going strong too. These are "Ratte":-

I'm putting this post forward for Harvest Monday, hosted by Daphne at Daphne's Dandelions where you will find lots more posts about what people have been harvesting this week.

  1. What a great harvest. My beans are way behind yours, nothing ready for picking yet, in fact, they don't seem to be doing as well as they have done in previous years but I'll reserve judgement until I see what sort of harvest I get from them. Just been catching up on the posts I missed while I was away and I'm sorry to hear that Jane's been in hospital. Glad to hear that she's home now, I hope she's well again very soon. Please pass on my best wishes to her.

  2. Your basket of goodies look fit to be an illustration in a gardening book! I grew runner beans for the first time this year but most of the blossoms failed to set fruit. Too hot in July. They are blossoming profusely again now that we've cooled down, so I'm curious to see if I get any. Great looking harvest you have this week!

  7. Agreed, this is the peak time of year for diversity. In addition to harvesting I find I spend a lot of time just cutting off excess or spent foliage. Those green beans and potatoes are perfect.

  8. Beautiful harvests and varied too. I'm basically harvesting cucumbers and zucchini right now. I'm hoping that changes soon.
