Purple Sprouting Broccoli

You all know how much I love PSB, surely. Well, I'm going to be able to harvest more of it very soon, so I've been out photographing it. This year one of my 6 plants came on much quicker than the others, and I harvested its crop a couple of weeks ago, whereas the others are still not quite at their best.

This is "Rudolph", very erect and very dark coloured.

And this one is "Red Arrow", much paler, almost blue in colour, and rather wider-spread.

The one Rudolph plant that matured early has begun to produce a number of little shoots along its stem:

They may not be very big, but they will be a very welcome late addition to the crop.

I'm already considering what to put in the bed where the PSB is growing, when it's finished. I think that in view of the huge number of bean seeds I have (mainly due to the generosity of Jude, who wrote that guest post for me about her "Glorious" collection of heritage beans) it will have to be beans. Not that that will be a penance of any sort, because we love beans and it will be nice to try some different ones.

  1. Not sure what is happening to the pigeon pecked PSB on the plot - must go check.
