Since PSB is clearly one of my favourite vegetables, this is a significant moment for me - the culmination of 10 months of waiting.
It wasn't a lot, but when "de-constructed" it was quite sufficient for a 2-person serving. I described how I used it HERE.
They were mostly little "tiddlers", but there were a few good ones.
This one caused a certain amount of hilarity!
Lara proudly shows off "Ms Hairy Legs".
Lara said how much she loves the sweet smell of freshly-dug Parsnips, and I totally agree.
This photo demonstrates very clearly the difference between the two varieties I grew. "Guernsey Half-Long" is the short, fat, turnip-shaped one at the right, whereas the thicker, longer one is "Duchess".
That's all I have harvested this week. My attention has turned now to sowing. So far I have sown Chillis, Asparagus, Basil and Broad Beans.
To read about some other harvests, please visit Harvest Monday, hosted as ever by Daphne's Dandelions.
I think Lara's got very good taste, I love parsnips too. How she's grown since I last saw a photo of her on your blog.
ReplyDeleteYes, how time flies. Lara will be 6 in June. It seems like only the other day that she was discovering her first Blueberries with me!
DeleteLara is certainly growing fast, Must be all that fresh veg,
ReplyDeleteWhen she is with us, Lara eats more or less constantly - preferably fruit, though basically anything you put in front of her!
DeleteIt is great to see a new generation getting into gardening! And you have more patience than I would growing the PSB. Ten months is a long time to wait! I have a hard time waiting for Brussels Sprouts, and they don't take nearly that long.
ReplyDeleteTen months is a true commitment, total love, at least when it comes to veggies!
ReplyDeleteI'll echo the others sentiments on the wait time...but your commitment has certainly paid off with some tasty dividends!
ReplyDeleteWonderful moment to share. Thanks! Your parsnips may have been mostly 'tiddlers' but the memory will surely be big! :-)
ReplyDeleteI love parsnips but I can understand where the PSB would steal your heart. They are so lovely. And any vegetable that takes 10 months to produce had better be good.
ReplyDeleteSo wonderful to include your granddaughter in the harvest - hopefully another gardener in the making!
ReplyDeleteHow lovely to have your granddaughter helping with the harvest! Lara's adorable! I agree with the other comments about introducing another generation to gardening and fresh produce
ReplyDeleteGorgeous parsnips and purple sprouting!
ReplyDeleteNice harvest, and oh my she is growing!
ReplyDeleteThe PSB looks good and great to see you've had a helper in the garden!
ReplyDeleteNice job with the PSB.. Wish I could grow it and wish I had a helper as cute as Lara. Hopefully you are inspiring her to become a gardener some day.
