This post is a little collection of photos that I think amply demonstrates that vegetables that are good to eat can also be good to look at. You know the term "Gastro-porn"? Well this is "Garden-porn" or "Veggie-voyeurism" - gratuitous pictures of good-looking fruit and veg. The title refers to what score I award them - out of ten!

New potatoes - "Swift"? |
|
New potatoes - "Orla"? |
|
Blueberries "Earliblue" |
|
Endive "Tres Fine Maraichere" |
|
Komatsuna "Torasan" |
|
Summer broccoli "Tenderstem" |
But just so I that can say I am honest with you, I need to show you this one as well... These potatoes probably score only a "One". The tuber on the left has evidently been affected by the disease Scab, but I'm not sure about the deformation on the other one... what do you think could it be?
Why did you ruin such a lovely post. I was enjoying the garden-porn and then up popped a wrinkly and warty old tuber.
ReplyDeleteThe first few pictures were great!
That last one has put me off my dinner!
Martin :)
The potato on the right looks disgusting.
ReplyDeleteEndive looks better than it tastes.
Beautiful Blueberries.

Just a guess on the last photo, "potato wart disease"? It's the bane of veggie porn stars.
ReplyDeleteI've had a few with scab - I think it's more prevalent on seed potatoes supplied this winter due to the drier conditions during the growing season last year. Still eat them though and they still tasted great which is what it's all about in the end!
ReplyDeleteSix #10 photos that really look like small pieces of art and then 1 poor thing, so just eat it and you'll feel better about it.
ReplyDeleteIt looks as though those last potatoes were not practising safe spudding.
ReplyDeleteThe blueberries are stunning! The last spuds need to go to the clinic....
ReplyDeleteOh that is scab. Always wonder what potato scab look like.
ReplyDeleteLike the top two photos on nice plates. The last photo... well, I'd peel it quickly and not tell anyone what it looked like lol.
ReplyDeleteHas the last potato got something like this although we've hardly had wet conditions. If it is potato wart disease you have problems! You could send the photo to the potato council and ask for advice.
ReplyDeleteYep! Warts. LOL. Oooo! I was joking, then I read that last comment...I hope it isn't serious. :-(
ReplyDeleteHi Folks; re the "warty" spuds: I am not panicking just yet. Those two tubers were in all honesty the only ones I have harvested so far that were anything short of perfect. We ate the scabby one (the scabs are very superficial and are easily rubbed off with the skin), and the warty one was discarded. Just imagine the reaction of the person who first discovered "Pink Fir Apple", which is a very knobbly potato. They probably thought "Oh yuck" but it turned out to be one of the most popular and tasty potatoes ever.
ReplyDeleteThanks for teaching me a new variety. :)
DeleteYum! That all looks lovely (final pic appart lol)
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures all of them, except of course the last one. I will not comment on that; you've heard enough complaints about it. lol. Good to know only 2 potatoes haven't scored a perfect 10.
ReplyDeleteThose blueberries look great! They are very expensive here in Singapore. Raspberries are even worse!
