After the rain

After just about the driest Spring in living memory, we have finally had a couple of spells of very welcome rain. This post is a collection of photos taken early in the morning after a rainy night...

Yes, OK, I admit I do have a bit of a thing about drops of water on plants leaves... But you have to agree that they look beautiful, don't you?

  1. I agree raindrops on plants are just beautiful, especially after a long dry spell. Great photographer too!!

  2. More rain - where's ours? Love the colour of cotinus - is it easy to keep small as we are thinking of getting one but don't want it to grow huge!

  3. Sue, I've had my Cotinus (Royal Purple) for about 5 years now, and it's only about 6' tall. I haven't had to prune it significantly. I still have the original label from when I bought it - it says "Height and spread: 6' x 6' in 10 years", so I don't expect it to grow much bigger.

  9. They ARE absolutely beautiful, and everything looks so lush despite the drought. I'm laughing at the thought of you out in the garden zooming up close at lettuce. The things we garden bloggers do!

  12. Beautiful pics! :) Here in Gloucester I'm just starting to get a bit fed up with the rain. I know we really needed it a few weeks ago but now we seem to be getting, at the very least, one heavy shower a day which is making working on the plot and finding a dry time to mow the lawns at home somthing of a pain... Having said that I'm sure I'd be moaning if we weren't getting any at all... ;)

  14. Hi Mr. H.; The plant in the 3rd picture is an Oxalis "Burgundy Wine". Very striking, isn't it? It is just beginning to produce some of its white flowers. I'll post some more photos of it soon.

  16. Just beautiful Mark! The drops on your plants look so cool and refreshing. Lovely photos. We are in the middle of a very serious drought so these photographs are such a welcome sight. Thank you! We are hoping it will rain again someday in our neck of the woods!

  17. Great pictures! - We are starting to get our fair share here too.

Filled the water butts up which is a relief, and I haven't had to water the plants for a couple of days apart from the pots in the greenhouse.

    Have a good day!

  19. What great photo's Mark. I'm about to move house which will enable me to do a little more gardening and I can't wait. We're having more rain than usual here in Melbourne, Australia, but seeing your pics still highlight how wonderful and precious water is to us all.
I hope to post my veggie plot and plants once I get settled into my new home. Its temporary for about a year or so, until we move back to the UK, but I can't wait that long...my green fingers are itching and only doing a little gardening on a small decking here hasn't been enough. I enjoyed your blog so will be visiting again soon. Thanks for sharing.
