Night sky over Fleet

I just want to share this photo with you...

Some of you may have seen it in my Sidebar under the heading "Current favourite Photo". It is just that. I took it late on Sunday afternoon, just before 5 p.m.

I went out to the garage to get something and just happened to notice how beautiful the evening sky looked - bright and clear and deep ultramarine blue, with the Moon in a prominent postion, and Venus just off to its left. You can also see a thin line of vapour from an aircraft condensation trail, which makes it looks as if the Moon is smoking. Then there is the faint pink flush of sunset just above the horizon.

I rushed back indoors, grabbed the camera and snapped off four quick photos, of which this is the best. The other ones have light from the streetlamps in them, which spoils the natural effect. I also love the complex patterns created by the different types of tree seen in silhouette.

This is a photo I am proud of. It makes me happy!

  1. Dad, that is a photo I would be proud of! You've really got the bug now. There are few things in life that beat the feeling if having captured one perfect moment forever.

  3. Ah yes, you should be proud, it's a lovely photo. I love the blue of the sky, and you're right, the black silhouette of the trees is very striking. Well done Mark, 10/10 :)

  7. Great photo Mark - was it with the new camera?
I took some sunset type photos at the weekend which are posted on my husband's blog here I'm a bit upset as my remote control has suddenly stopped working and it was so useful.

  8. Yes, you will have realised that this photo was taken with the new camera. The old one gave up the ghost completely and has now been consigned via Freecycle to a someone who reckons he can repair it. The new camera has a thousand and one features I have yet to discover, but the Night-time setting seems OK!

  9. Amazing!
Your photo shows how clear the air in your place was when you took the shot. And I believe the clear air means how cold the temperature there is.
