Cherokee Purple tomatoes
In view of the interest that many readers have shown in them, I want to publish a couple more photos of my Cherokee Purple tomatoes. This year I am growing them for the first time, so I didn't really know what to expect, apart from what I had seen in pictures on the internet, but I have been very pleased with the results I have managed to achieve. This is a very handsome tomato!

Wow! Those tomatoes (especially the one at the top of the plate in the last photo) look like they could be Cherokee Purple models! I grew this variety once, and they're certainly a nice, meaty tomato. I think my favorites (which I would grow year after year, if I could reliably find them) are Oxheart and Mortgage Lifter.
ReplyDeleteThey do look amazing!
ReplyDeleteI just harvested my first ever oxheart tomatoe but haven't cut into it yet. I'll save it for dinner.
We'd settle for any ripe tomato without blossom end rot at the moment.
ReplyDeleteNow you are just taunting me. I wish I could eat one. They look so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteStunning! I have never grown Cherokee Purple Tomatoes but I want to after viewing these photos. They are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteNice... I also grow the Cherokee Purple and the potato leaf brother Spudakee Purple (Cherokee Purple PL) both are awesome. Your Cherokee Purples did wonderful it made a great picture. another one of my favorites. lol
ReplyDeleteHow is the flavor?
ReplyDeleteDavid, I found the taste to be a lot sweeter than I had expected - very little acidity - but very "tomatoey"! This is a variety that I shall probably grow again.
