Colour in the garden

Since I am primarily a veg-gardener, lots of the plants in my garden are green or nearly so, such as this immature "Tundra" cabbage:


But right now some of them are definitely NOT green.


Most of my Blueberry plants lost all their leaves without developing any of their usual spectacular colours, but this one plant is showing them how it ought to be done!




Even the Hydrangea plant still has more to offer:




And now that they have lost their foliage, the Dogwood shrubs are showing their Winter colours:




In a few weeks most of this colour will be gone (the Dogwoods are the exception), and we will have a period of drabness before a new season begins, so let's make the most of the colour while it lasts!

  1. I have three blueberry plants, two of them dropped their leaves very early without much sign of any colour change but one is only just losing its leaves after a stunning display. The foliage was a gorgeous deep red. Hydrangeas are still lovely at this time of year, they have a certain charm as the flowers fade.

  2. I had a similar story with my blueberries too.When I saw the title I expected to see cornus and you did not disappoint!

  3. One of my blueberries dropped their leaves quite early, the other two put on a fine autumn display. You have quite a lot of colour there going on.

  4. Blueberries are such pretty plants in the fall. Sadly ours have all lost their leaves already.

  5. When is the best time to prune hydrangeas Mark? A lady down the road has done it already and has cut them about a foot from the ground.

    1. I'm a novice on this myself, but I think pruning in early Spring would be best.
