Autumn colours - Dogwood

It's that time of year when I do a post about Dogwood (Cornus) leaves! I know I do one (or two...) every year, but they are different every time, because the leaves are different each year. Although there are some similarities, there are always differences too.

This is the 2014 version...

In a few days' time they will all be lying on the ground like this one:

Then with the leaves all gone, it will be time to admire the beauty of the stems, in an array of yellow, orange, red and black.

  1. Very nice. I'm really enjoying my walks recently with all the fall colors. I'll miss the red and orange leaves when they are gone.

  2. Have you Photoshopped any of those?

    1. Nope! Never use Photoshop at all. Those colours are real.

  4. Well worth photographing, Mark - they're stunningly gorgeous at this time of year. Is that Kesselringii? The cornus planted in the gardens here some 15 years ago has never been cut back so has massively long stems. It needs cutting back, not my responsibility but, if I have the time, I'll do it.

    1. Yes, the red-leaf one with the very dark stems is Kesselringii

    2. Kesselringii is my favourite cornus - I saw it underplanted with snowdrops at Cambridge Botanical Gardens, it was stunning.

  6. I have brought my first dogwoods into the garden this year, and they are already a firm favourite with me! I can't wait to see those fiery stems brightening up the grey winter garden!
