Lovin' it

Although it has been a dull and damp weekend we did have some spells of beautiful Spring sunshine this past week, and the sun-lovers were just "Lovin' it".

The Crocus in particular really respond to bright light, their flowers opening out to their maximum extent to take full advantage of the opportunity:

These are Primroses, glowing the colour of fresh butter in the sunshine. To me they say "Spring is here", in no uncertain terms.

Daffodils are another classic Spring flower for us. They add a wonderful splash of colour to the garden, and growing them takes hardly any effort at all. Bung some bulbs in the ground in early Autumn - and do nothing more. What could be easier?

The Wallflowers are biding their time. I keep thinking we are about to have a brilliant display. There are masses of buds but they are mostly still firmly closed.

Encouraged by the warming weather, the Buddleia Davidii "Royal Red"  (which I pruned fairly severely in the Autumn) is now bursting into leaf. This plant was new to my garden last year and produced only a few very, though spectacular, blooms This year I hope it will be even better, since I have shaped it to be more compact, and new stems are bursting out all over.
