Gastro-porn!

My garden is still continuing to provide a small but steady stream of goodies.

In the basket are:- Carrots (the very last of mine), Parsnips, French beans, Lettuce, Radicchio and Celeriac.
The Parsnips and Celeriac are destined to join some carrots and potatoes in a "Root Vegetable Boulangere" recipe devised by Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall.

Now, the other day when I showed you my "Jake the Peg" parsnip, Ali from Mud Pie accused me of publishing vegetable pornography. Well Ali, you ain't seen nothing yet! My latest parsnip is even ruder...

Anyway, if strange-shaped vegetables count as "Veggie-Porn", then gratuitous photos of good-looking food must be "Gastro-Porn". Like this:

This could go on for a very long time, so I'd better stop... I don't know about you, but I reckon that the visual aspect of good food is a very important part of its enjoyment. This is why I can never come to terms with a recipe book that doesn't have photos. Did I miss my vocation? If I had my time again, maybe I would choose to be a food artist, or an illustrator of cookery books...

  1. Did I ever tell you about the parsnip on my website here? It's at the bottom of the page as it is just so rude!

Great stuff picking French beans in October.

  3. I can't do a cookbook without pictures either. I don't know if I want to make it unless I see it. I guess we are lucky to have all the visual aids that we have now.
Your basket of food looks great. I have been down to my raised beds and they are looking good. A few of the spinach did decide to sprout and so did the garlic and so far the cabbage and broccoli look fine. Who knows, maybe I will actually get some something from our efforts.

  6. Mark, if you ever published a cookbook, I'll be ordering it. You take such amazing food pictures. They really need to find a place in some book.

  7. I'm craving one of those salads now, even though it's 9am on a freezing Sunday, I'd say you definitely have a talent for making things look fantastic!

  8. Stunning pics! And I have to agree that a cookbook HAS to have pictures. Mainly so that I can see when I've gone wrong....! lol x

  10. Mark - the politically correct ones are gorgeous - food photographer you could easily be... but I like the rude ones best :D

  11. My friend and I always tell each other to take 'food porn' photographs so neither of us misses out on seeing anything delicious, but your phrase 'gastro-porn' sounds much more cultured. I will have to encourage her to introduce this new word to her vocabulary as I will mine. Thanks for sharing such great photography!
