Lovely shots - I particularly enjoyed the callicarpa (a plant I'm not familiar with). I'm impressed with the olives - I didn't realise it would get warm enough to set fruit. V. impressed. I had to pull out my nasturiums the other day as they looked a bit diseased. How is it that I can't grow nasturiums - they are pretty much a weed here they are so easy to grow....
Absolutely beautiful pictures. Here in BC the callicarpa is nicknamed Beauty Berry, so you may find one using that name depending where you are. I planted one this year, but it didn't flower or berry. NEXT year for sure! Love your posts Mark.
Some great photos. The container carrots in your last post are fab. A great way to grow carrots! 'Grow Your Own' recommends sowing carrots in Oct under glass, I was thinking of trying this.
Interesting that you're growing olives - I presume these have to be grown in a greenhouse as even the unusual hot weather we've had surely can't be enough for them? Do they usually grow well? (Yours do look like they're coming on nicely!)
Hi Planters; My olives are on one solitary little tree that lives outdoors except during the coldest part of the Winter. The ones in my phota are the ONLY ones, so you can see this is not a "harvest" - purely ornamental.

Great array of colour Mark. If you didn't live on the other side of the planet I'd be after a cutting of your geranium. I have such a soft spot for these plants (among others) and am a bit of a sneaky cutting collector, plucking bits off plants that hang over the fences as I'm walking past. I love all the different colours and will sneak a piece if ever I see a colour I haven't got yet. I managed to snag a pretty pale pink one like yours earlier in the week. Hopefully it takes well and I can pot it up to add to the growing collection.

ReplyDeleteAre they new fronds developing on your fern? I usually see this type of growth in spring.
ReplyDeleteSue; Yes, all the ferns have masses of frond-buds, but I presume they will have the sense to wait until next year before opening...
