I think I will probably cut 50% of the canes and leave the others, then see what happens.Mark Willishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04558305122821209520noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3840827850297141825.post-44603809142833273482018-02-09T19:08:26.425+00:002018-02-09T19:08:26.425+00:00Yes, they are very close to the fence. I planted the new one a bit further from the fence - about 12 inches, I suppose - because I'm trying to maximise the veg-growing space!Mark Willishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04558305122821209520noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3840827850297141825.post-22731504986796787692018-02-09T18:54:39.397+00:002018-02-09T18:54:39.397+00:00They planted those currants very near to the fence...They planted those currants very near to the fence didn’t they or are they further away than they look?
Do the raspberries look to have any newish stems? If so they are probably summer varieties. If all the wood is old then they are likely to be autumn fruiters.Sue Garretthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08164518448098182276noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3840827850297141825.post-30785925960645240342018-02-09T18:05:27.426+00:002018-02-09T18:05:27.426+00:00I have Autumn Bliss raspberries which should be ch...I have Autumn Bliss raspberries which should be chopped down now. What I have done in the past is to chop half of them down leaving canes which are not old but look as if they are capable of shooting. On some of these I even cut them back a bit at the top. Whether they are summer or autumn canes, you should still get a crop this year, and you will have time to work out what you have got. Even on my Autumn Bliss I got an earlier crop.
Peter WAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
