Not only would it mean something to them but I imagine (at least that is how it works here) that it would make it harder for other allotments to close down and sell.
becky3086https://www.blogger.com/profile/01026872543168452124noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3840827850297141825.post-64650595806799663962015-02-15T17:37:07.563+00:002015-02-15T17:37:07.563+00:00The trouble is when councils are strapped for cash...The trouble is when councils are strapped for cash and an allotment site is on prime building land it;s seen as a cash cow. I recently asked out council where all the money from allotment rentals goes as we don't seem to see any return in improvements on site. The answer was that it goes into the general council coffer and a small amount is allocated to an allotment budget, So it's a bit like road tax not being used to improve our dreadful roads,

I think on may ways allotments are a nuisance to councils and some seem to be trying to put people off taking them on rather than encouraging, I signed a while ago and tweeted and Facebooked etc,Sue Garretthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08164518448098182276noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3840827850297141825.post-38757758106493008152015-02-15T17:05:28.428+00:002015-02-15T17:05:28.428+00:00That is so incredibly sad. Hopefully the Farm Terrace plotholders are successful in both their fight and raising awareness which would ideally lead to much stricter guidelines when it comes to selling community land.

I'm also aghast that the Council has the ability to file another application only a couple of months after the High Court has already ruled - there should be some sort of law in place that prohibits repeated applications, for at least a certain number of years, once a court ruling is reached. Filing repeated requests such as this is clearly an abuse of the system.Margarethttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15949946977793864054noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3840827850297141825.post-71546469938727012852015-02-15T14:46:49.186+00:002015-02-15T14:46:49.186+00:00We don't have allotments here in the US, we ha...We don't have allotments here in the US, we have community gardens. Similar, but not the same as they can be owned by anyone. Sometimes they are rented space from an empty lot (often these have issues with selling them off when land prices rise as someone owns the property). But most I think around here are part of parks and conservation land. The community garden is a small add on to the park. So we have less pressure on them I think. If the town wants to get rid of the park you would have everyone that uses the park up in arms about it.

I hope they succeed in saving it. I could understand sites being sold off if no one wanted an allotment plot but so many people are on waiting lists that there just aren't enough plots to go round as it is without having fewer sites. I hope that common sense prevails and that the council's application is rejected.Johttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17436932004631816039noreply@blogger.com
