These days I hasve switched to growing marrows. In my very small plot, the trailing squashes take up too much room to be viable.Mark Willishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04558305122821209520noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3840827850297141825.post-42702828466800353102011-01-05T20:48:24.236+00:002011-01-05T20:48:24.236+00:00... oops also meant to add that I've never suc...... oops also meant to add that I've never successfully grown butternut squash. I tried once a few years back and got several squashes (is that the plural!?) and was quite excited, but they tasted absolutely lousy - really, really bland. A friend had a similar experience last year. Have you had any luck with them?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3840827850297141825.post-84949996294543380712011-01-05T20:45:07.208+00:002011-01-05T20:45:07.208+00:00Another butternut squash risotto lover here. Sometimes I mash half of what I've roasted and stir a little bit of stock into the mix to make it like a paste and then stir this into the risotto - makes it a lovely colour and then add the rest of the roasted cubes when I'm about to serve it.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3840827850297141825.post-3957977604046376962011-01-04T18:59:43.777+00:002011-01-04T18:59:43.777+00:00Hi Mark, thanks for the visit to my blog...yes, Qu...Hi Mark, thanks for the visit to my blog...yes, Queen of Seaford, but not English... :-)<br />Thanks for the heads up on the Mexican oregano. The squash was roasted and added later, and I used a little saffron in the rice for color. Butternut squash soup, and butternut ravioli with a sage and brown butter sauce is very popular here too! ;)Curbstone Valley Farmhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06714297348566721344noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3840827850297141825.post-2048241062033038312011-01-04T11:17:46.101+00:002011-01-04T11:17:46.101+00:00Hazel; I have to agree with your Cook - roasting t...Hazel; I have to agree with your Cook - roasting the squash does give it a greater depth of flavour, and adding some roasted chunks to the risotto just before serving would be brilliant. What about roasted Butternut squash soup? Do you have that? Produces a great result for very little effort.Mark Willishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04558305122821209520noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3840827850297141825.post-52494984169790794992011-01-04T10:54:50.498+00:002011-01-04T10:54:50.498+00:00This is on of Cook's favourites. The pumpkin added early breaks up and turns the rissotto yellow and the ones put in last stay whole. Looks great and tastes fantastic.Hazelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16577208643431414375noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3840827850297141825.post-2103275955962926032011-01-04T09:22:34.416+00:002011-01-04T09:22:34.416+00:00Porridge or risotto are good for people who have h...Porridge or risotto are good for people who have heavy stomach feeling after carousing during the New year holidays like me!takaekohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02935915593745969292noreply@blogger.com
