They are quite a dry floury potato which makes them excellent for baking. And the flavoutr is second to none. I found your comments about Red Duke of York an interesting contrast to my experience, which has been that it's a great baked/roasted potato with good storage qualities. Showing just how different each gardeners experiences can be for the same variety. And some similar - I too love Charlotte and Pink Fir Apple.

Great post.Gwenfar's Gardenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07326735419091325096noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3840827850297141825.post-85170449691385854832014-09-17T14:24:32.852+01:002014-09-17T14:24:32.852+01:00Wonderful overview. I do also steam rather than boil my smaller potatoes over a pan of minted water which I find helps keep their texture and flavour. One of my favourites and grown every year is the Salad Blue which has an excellent taste and retains a lovely purple colour in cooking-the jacket potatoes are particularly impressive being a dark purple all the way through. I can only grow in containers living on a rocky hillside and this year tried just one tuber per small black plastic grow bag and had an excellent yield though did have to water very regularly to stop them drying out.
Green Dragonettehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11577026799637153889noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3840827850297141825.post-15473576310064667872014-09-16T14:29:19.674+01:002014-09-16T14:29:19.674+01:00It's always interesting to hear what other peo...It's always interesting to hear what other people think of different potato varieties. I've grown Sharpe's Express in the past and thought it a very good potato. It's great that you managed to grow so many different varieties so that you could compare them. Will you visit the potato day again next year?Johttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17436932004631816039noreply@blogger.com
