Then there has been the dought and the smoke from the fires north of us. We also have had a few fires ourselves but luckily they were able to put them out. Incredibly we up north I haven't had it as cold as you southerners have. Our coldest temperature <br />do far has been -3.7.<br />The RSPB and BTO do recommend that we feed the birds all year round. Loss of foraging ground and new farming techniques mean that the birds haven't as much available wild food. Sparrows particularly suffer from this. We find that between raising their young and the weather getting colder the wild birds do tend to go further afield for their food naturally and our feeders don't need replenishing as regularly.
