Harvest Monday - 26th Jan 2015

I'm still here! Still managing to harvest at least something to show off for Harvest Monday.

Here is another photo of the Baby Leeks I wrote about yesterday:

They look better when cleaned up:

In addition I have picked another batch of Brussels Sprouts.

As always, I picked just enough for a 2-person serving, about 250g when picked, about 200g when prepared for cooking.

Every time I think they must be just about finished, I find some more have grown. The little tiny sprouts up at the tops of the plants - the last ones to mature - are actually the nicest of the lot!

That's all the produce from my garden this week, so why not head over to Daphne's Dandelions and see what everyone else has got...

  1. I'm having sprouts with a roast chicken dinner tonight, sadly not home grown though. The rest of the family won't eat them but I'm not missing out, I love them.

  2. Really...I can't believe you are still picking those sprouts. What an amazing harvest from 6 plants. You must be almost done and about to move on to the huge heads on top of the plants. Can't wait to see what you do with those!

    1. The Brussels Tops are like strong-tasting Spring Greens, and we eat them with hearty food - like for instance a beef and ale casserole.

  4. Sprouts are usually a disappointment in my garden. They obviously like the conditions much better in yours!

  5. Your leeks are the opposite end of the size scale to our parsnip - both equally welcome :)

    1. I'm sticking with the old "size doesn't matter" saying!

  6. You have to love the veggies that keep on producing, those sprouts are winners.

    1. The overall weight of veg produced was probably not very impressive, but the fact that I have been able to take a harvest often is a huge advantage for me.

  7. I love leeks, especially when cooked in cream and cheese.

    Brussels Sprouts look brilliant.

    All the best Jan
