Aquilegia collection

These beautiful flowers are actually volunteers - ones that just appeared in my garden without being invited - and grow in a tiny strip of soil down the side of my house; a very adverse environment.

These are the little seedlings grown from seeds sent to me by Diana of Kebun Malay Kadazan Girls. I wonder what colour(s) they will be?

I don't think I'll find out until next year.

  1. Dainty flowers, but very strong. I've also got some on my patch.

  2. I wish I had some in different colours, mine seem to be a very ordinary white bordering on pink - sometimes.

  3. I love aquilegias - they self sow themselves all over my garden. It's a lovely surprise seeing what colours I get each year. Those purple ones are just lovely.

  4. They obviously enjoy the conditions where they have seeded themselves - nature knows best - mine are only just opening - they are just right for my type of gardening.

  5. And you not even a flower man Mark. Aquilegias are rather promiscuous. We have a mixture of invited and uninvited ones. One has made a home in a planter at the base of a palm plant. It's doing no harm so is left to get on with it. They do seem a favourite with aphids though.

  9. They have lovely flowers indeed but, they are also tough and invasive. Good self-seeders. They run quickly a very deep tap root so be careful to pull any seedling out on the places you don't want them to be.

  10. I have loads of self seeded aquilegias in my garden, they even settle themselves in between the paving.

  11. They are lovely - one of my favourite flowers at this time of year. I really love your deep purple one. They managed to self seed gently here when it was building rubble, I still find the odd one in odd places out the front, though I have rounded most of them into the borders now!

  12. One of my favorites as well. They do self seed prodigiously, and so "walk-about" the garden

  13. I just wanted to tell you that yours has become my favorite blog. I used to read it first, because I couldn't wait to see what was happening, but now, I save it for last, so I can end great. Thanks so much, I know it isn't always easy.

  15. Lovely bean plants. Hope that you will share them with readers, after they start fruiting.

I grew some last year. They did grow well, but due to lack of trellis support, it just gave up!Plant to grow this year, after summer . (India).
