Dogwood re-engineered

Following the advice of fellow-blogger and photography enthusiast Janet (aka Plantaliscious), I have edited one of my recent Dogwood pictures. I was trying to show off the wide range of colours available in this shrub family.

This is what the photo was originally like:

And now it looks like this:

I have cropped the photo to remove the rather distracting vase, and added a frame. Janet, I reckon this is an improvement.  Thanks for your advice. Anyone else care to comment?

I fully admit that I am a complete novice in terms of photography and I am keen to pick up any tips I can, from people who know more about it than I do. For instance, is there likely to be anything I could do to remove the shadows?

  1. That looks good Mark even without the black/blue wall behind!

  2. Love the before and after! I've been meaning to pick up a book on digital photography so I can start squeezing the best results possible out of my older model camera. (Which also leaves me unqualified to do more than say I like the 2nd photo better). :)

  3. Beautiful colours. I like them both with and without the vase. I can't really comment about photography as I am a complete novice.

I was going to pick some dogwood to decorate my door at Christmas but sadly it did not happen.

I totally like you new blog lay out. The green and dark red compliments the colours in your red hot chilli header.

  4. Hi Mark, I think that looks great - and I like the shadows, I think they add interest without detracting from the amazing array of colours.
