Daffodils

This week we bought the first Daffodils of the year.

To us it's a sign that we have "turned the corner" and that Spring is not too far away now. We love them because they brighten the house so much.

These ones came from our local greengrocer's shop. I suspect that they were grown in Cornwall, in the extreme South-West of England.

My own home-grown ones are not flowering yet. Maybe in another month??

  1. Daffodils are so cheerful; your photos are very vibrant; beautiful. I haven't noticed any in the shops here yet.

  2. Oh they are just beautiful Mark. I adore daffodils, daffodils and tulips. I actually have bulbs in my garden that try very hard, but of course never quite make straight. It's their destiny in this climate to be wonky!

I look forward to your home grown ones, and if you feel like a field trip, photos of a meadow full of them would be much appreciated!

  4. I do so love daffs, such cheerful flowers. I particularly love that first photo Mark, you are clearly getting the hang of the new camera!

  5. At first I thought yours were on flower! Our snowdrops are showing white on the buds and they'll be our first flowers. No doubt yours will be out before ours.

  6. I think you're right about Cornwall. I remember seeing a feature on Gardener's World about an Isles of Scilly daffodil farm. Mind you, this is still quite early even for them.

My indoor narcissi are coming out at the moment, but very little sign of the outdoor ones!
